October 2025 Player of the Month

First things first, We owe a massive, chips-on-the-table apology for the severely late update on October’s Player of the Month!

Our dedicated (but easily distracted) team got locked in a high-stakes disagreement over whether a Jaffa Cake is a biscuit or a cake.

We’ve since settled on a "Sweet Citrus-Flavoured Disc of Contention" and promise to be more punctual.

The man, the myth, the increasingly shaggy legend – the East Durham Poker Player of the Month award for October goes to none other than Scott Burns!

Scott’s performance last month was a masterclass in consistency, proving that "going deep" isn't just a strategy; it's a lifestyle.

Across 8 league games in October, Scott ensured he was never the short stack for long, finishing at least 10th in every single event.

His notable finishes include:

* A 5th place
* Two solid 4th place finishes
* A valuable 3rd place podium
* A near-miss 2nd place finish

That’s a run of form tighter than a pair of aces on the river!

While Scott's poker skills are undeniable, the award ceremony was almost derailed by the increasingly voluminous subject atop his head.

For those unaware, Scott is undertaking perhaps the most ambitious, long-term personal protest in East Durham history: he will not cut his hair until Sunderland A.F.C. win the Premier League.

"We tried to find a trophy big enough to sit on his head, but his barnet is doing a decent job of taking up all the vertical space already," joked a EDP team member.

"His hair is now so long, we suspect he might be using it to hide his hole cards. Honestly, the man could flop a full house and we wouldn't know because we can't see past his fringe!"

Scott, we commend your dedication to the poker table and your truly inspirational (if slightly terrifying) dedication to the Black Cats.

Keep spinning those chips and growing that mane. At this rate, by the time Sunderland lifts the trophy, you'll be able to braid your locks into a makeshift river rope to haul your winnings home!

A huge congratulations to Scott Burns on a phenomenal October!
