About Us

"Poker is a fascinating, wonderful, intricate adventure on the high seas of human nature."
David A. Daniel

East Durham Poker was born out of the love of the game and the need to bring the best quality games you can get outside of a casino and in to the Peterlee and Horden area.

Officially founded on 2 November 2015 off the back of a once a week local pub league East Durham Poker has grown to be one of the best recognised poker tournament organisers in the area with games now been regularly scheduled twice a week.

After growing steady, along with the desire to continue to bring players of all levels a near casino experience at a club poker level, we moved in to our permanent card room in June of 2018 at Peterlee Central Club where all games are now played.

Since the opening of the card room we have aimed to set the buy-ins to accommodate all players of all budgets. From the Tournament to the cash table you will find our regulars are not only competitive but also passionate about the game.

All these things considered we believe we now bring you the best poker experience you can get at a local club level so don\'t hesitate to come a long one night whether you are a beginner or a pro you will be more than welcomed. And remember - no membership is required, although its encouraged.

To continue to increase your enjoyment further in the card room we will be looking to implement further comfort changes in 2020 and beyond.

About the Venue

Officially our permanent home opened in June 2018, East Durham Poker Card Room now attracts all levels of poker players from your casual to your dedicated player.

Located at the rear of Peterlee Central Club tournaments are regularly played on Monday and Thursday evenings from 18.00GMT (and the occasional Sunday afternoon) along with the popular cash games that happen till late.

Peterlee Central Club was originally opened in the early 1950's and was referred to as Peterlee Working Mens Club. Closing in 1978 after the club ran into financial difficulties up until 1981 when the Peterlee Leek club believed they had sufficient support and members to try and re-establish the club and approached Mr. Ernest Wilks (A Sam Smiths Rep) and asked for support from the brewery.

Sam Smiths supplied financial support and also filled the cellar to help the club get started. So the club opened again in 1981 and was re-named as Peterlee Central Club.

Since then the club has had it fair share of difficulties but has enjoyed continued support from Samuel Smiths right up until the present day. The club serves a wide selection of Samuel Smith beers, lagers (draft and bottled), shorts and soft drinks.

All this adds up to an (self claimed) incredible pub poker experience, If not, the best in the region. And massive thanks go to Peterlee Central Club for providing us with the opportunity to bring you that experience, without them this would not be possible.

In June 2020 during the COVID-19 closures saw some weather damage to the club and the card with the roof falling through. With the damage and closure saw a oppitunity for a full fresh look for East Durham Poker Card Room ready for the eventual return.

For details of upcoming events, check the poker tournament schedule on our calendar page.

We look forward to seeing you at the tables.
